                             Mystery Quilt?

When my son was 2 months old, he had to be airlifted to children’s from the hospital in Port Angeles for what the doctors thought was meningitis.  As first time parents, this was the most terrifying thing that had ever happened to us.  After three hours in the dark, lonely cold ER, we were taken to a room.  On the crib for my son was a beautiful quilt with bears on it that said “a slice of summer”, it was the first thing that made me smile in 24 hours.  It was the one colorful happy thing in a night filled with questions and fear.  I am happy to say that after lots and lots of tests, and lots of sleepless nights, my son got better.  They never figured out exactly what was wrong, but who cares now that he is healthy.  My son is now 15 months old and sleeps with this bear quilt every night.  It will be a year this week that we left Children’s for the last time, quite a milestone.

I know that the quilt had a tag on it with the name and e-mail of the person that made it, but it got lost in the confusion of being in the hospital.  I remember that the person was from Sequim, which I was impressed by since we live in P.A.  Here is a picture of my son Ben and the quilt (taken when he was about 5 months old).  I hope this can get to the person that made it, but I wanted to send it even if it didn’t.  Thank you so much for all you do.  It was an amazing comfort to have a quilt made with love by someone we don’t know, praying that my son gets better (and he did!)  Thank you again and I apologize that it took me so long to write this.

 Dates to mark on your calendar:

 June 8, 2008  is our Appreciation Tea
and

October 26, 2008  is
MADD  (Make a Difference Day
)

Come and join in the fun of sharing, socializing and picking up ideas.  Boni and I enjoy our get togethers with our blanket makers.  We want you all to know how much we appreciate your hard work and dedication.  Of course, the final joy comes when the blankets are delivered.  I know when I walk into the volunteer offices at Children’s Hospital, I am overwhelmed by the warm smiles and greetings.  More often than not, they say that the stock room was almost empty.  What a wonderful job giving comfort and security to ill children.

Hope to see you all at our Tea in June!

Warm regards,

Pat
