The 1930 Federal Census
listed 98 people living in Gardiner, WA. There were 30 individual
households, of which 23 households owned their homes and 7 households
rented their homes. 8 heads-of-the-house were foreign born, 10 heads
were first-generation American and 12 heads were second-generation
American. Non-family members of households, such as servants, boarders,
roomers, etc., were listed as 1 foreign born, 4 first-generation, and 3
second-generation Americans. Of the 98 residents, 38 were children.

had their occupation listed. 17 people were in farming; either as an
owner, farmer, or laborer. 6 were in logging as logger, steam donkey
engineer, or laborer. 5 were involved in raising chickens as owner,
rancher, or farmer. There were 3 servants in private homes, 2 teachers
in grade school, and 2 carpenters in the building trade. One each in the
clergy (Presbyterian Church), a bookkeeping (Gen‘l Store), a cook
(Hospital), an odd job laborer, a fisherman, and a traveling salesman
(Electric Appliances). Women in a family did not list their occupation
as home makers, rather it was listed as “none“.
